  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for schools to segregate children by race.
  • The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA)

    The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA)
    Law enacted equal access to education for all students and provided federal funding for primary and secondary education for students disadvantaged by poverty and/or disability.
  • PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    This law called for the students with disabilities to be placed in publicly funded school settings that met their individual educational needs.
  • Mills v. Board of Education

    Mills v. Board of Education
    This law made it unlawful for the D.C. Board of Education to deny educational services to students with mental and learning disabilities or behavioral issues.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142)

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142)
    This law requires that all states accepting federal funds provide equal access to education for children with physical and mental disabilities. Including a free meal per day.
  • Handicapped Children's Protection Act

    Handicapped Children's Protection Act
    This law gave parents of children with disabilities more say in the development of their child's education. The Individual Education Plan(IEP) was adopted.
  • Public Law 101-476

    Public Law 101-476
    This law amended Public Law 94-142/Education for All Handicapped Children Act. Calling for Autism and Traumatic brain injury as new categories of a disability and an Individual Transition Plan (ITP) for those students transitioning to post-secondary education.
  • No Child Left Behind Act of 2002

    Standardized testing was introduced at all public schools and had to meet the four federal requirements. Those being:

  • Idea Improvement Act of 2004

    Idea Improvement Act of 2004
    Short term goals were removed from IEP's.
    Classrooms implemented the RTI model.
  • Every Student Succeeds Act

    Every Student Succeeds Act
    This act replaces NCLB. It maintains some of NCLB requirements while implementing accountability and action towards those schools who are at a low performance standards to make positive changes.
