  • Watson v. City of Cambridge

    Children were excluded from school for having "weak minds". It took to much of the teacher's time to handle them.
  • Brown vs Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education was a landmark for the Supreme Court case in which the justices ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional. It is important because it made it known that it was the end of legalized racial segregation in schools in the US.
  • Education of Mentally Retarded Children Act

    This act is important because funds were provided by congress to train their teachers.
  • Mills v. Board of Education of the District of Columbia

    In Mills v. Board of Education of District of Columbia (1972), hereafter Mills, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia held that students with disabilities are entitled to an education and that education cannot be denied based on the accommodations’ additional cost to the school. It is important because all kids should have a right to free education.
  • Rowley v. Hendrick Hudson School District

    The Court held that public schools are not required by law to provide sign language interpreters to deaf students who are otherwise receiving an equal and adequate education. The finding/importance was that school districts must provide those services that permit a student with disabilities to benefit from instruction.
  • Honig v. Doe

    The Supreme Court further held that the "stay-put" provision of the Education of the Handicapped Act prohibited state or local school authorities from excluding disabled children from the classroom even for dangerous or disruptive conduct resulting from their disabilities. It was important because no child should be denied education based on their disability.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was a U.S. Act of Congress that reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; it included Title I provisions applying to disadvantaged students

    The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes available free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensures special education and related services to those children.
