  • Brown vs Board of Education

    The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that American state laws establishing racial segregation in public schools are unconstitutional, even if the segregated schools are otherwise equal in quality. Link text
  • Public Law (PL) 88-164

    Authorized funds for training professionals to work with children with special needs and for research and demonstration for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and deafness.

  • Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (PL) 93-112

    Section 504 requires a plan for support outlining the accommodations and interventions needed to help the student who has a condition that substantially limits a major life activity succeed in school.

  • The Education for All Handicapped Children Act (PL) 94-142

    It was designed to assure that all handicapped children have available to them a free appropriate public education which emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs.

    I did my education capstone course on flexible seating. It is very good for students with ADHD because it allows them to fidget and focus more. I was unable to find an exact "start date," but it has become increasingly popular in the last 5 years.
