Council of Exceptional Children
This council was created to work with children with Exceptionalities. -
ESEA Amendments
Established the first federal grant program for education of children with disabilities. -
The Learning Disability Act
An Act that classified learning disabilities and made available funds for state-level programs for learning disabilities. -
FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. This Allows students information to be protected. -
Education for All Handicapped Children Act
This act made available free and appropriate public education and also included non discriminatory assessments. -
IDEA
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Suggested people-first language and promoted the term disability instead of handicap. -
American Disability Act
Made service available to infant and toddlers with disabilities -
NCLB
No Child Left Behind. Students with special needs are allowed accommodations when it comes to assessments, extended test periods and one-on-one testing. -
Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement act
