Columbus' Voyage
Columbus was looking for a new route to India. He thought that if he sailed west he would end up there faster than it would take going east. Columbus acually found a "New World" and started exploration in the Americas. -

Cortes' Voyage
When Cortes was in the new world he conquered Mexico. Cortes took over the Aztec empire and eventually brought back 99 tons of gold. This started big exploration for more gold in the Spanish empire. -

Pineda was the first person to map the coast from Florida to Texas. This helped explorers know how far the ocean was from one place to another. -

De Vaca Discovers Texas
De Vaca was caught in a gale and was washed up on shore. When they got there, they met the Krawankawas who fed them when they were starving. He was in Texas for four years. -

Fray Marcus' and Esteban's Journey
They were there to study and evaluate the land in New Spain. Esteban died because he would go from tribe to tribe saying he's a medicine man so he could have food, water and women but not all tribes did this so they killed him. He reported there was a city of gold. -

Moscoso's Expedition
Moscoso was part of the Spanish expedition to explore Forida to Texas. The original leader was De Soto but Mosocoso took over. They explored Florida to east Texas and discovered the Mississippi river. -

Coronado's Expedition
Coronado was sent to find the city, Cibola, that was said to be filled with gold. Later on he discovered there was no city and started to search for Quivera. Quivera was said to be made of gold, When he searahed for Quivara, his guide was called "Turk". When they figured out that the city wasn't real he made Turk dig his own grave and then killed him. He tells Spain that Texas and other areas around it are usless and creates a bad reputation for the area.
