    Columbus' First Voyage
    Columbus was looking for a new route to Asia/India.
    He found the New World, in which he called the Native Americans there Indians. He also found gold and other riches there. He started Spanish exploration in North America because of the riches he found. Columbus made four trips to the New World.

    Pineda mapped 800 miles of land from the coastline of Florida to the coastline of Texas. His map of the coast led to others exploring the Gulf Coast.

    Cortes' Voyage
    Cortes conquered areas around Mexico City. He also conquered the Aztec Empire (He conquered the Aztecs). He brought back 6 million dollars worth of gold. Cortes also brought back 99 tons of gold by 1570.

    DeVaca's leader was Narvez. The purpose of the expedition was to find gold in Florida.

    Their boats crashed and they landed on Galveston. They were there for four years. They met the Karankawa's and the Karankawa's took them in for the four year period that they were there for.

    De Soto was the leader of the expedition. De Soto died at the Mississippi River of a fever. Moscoso reported the same thing Coronado reported which made Spain not want to explore Texas for 150 years.

    Fray Marcos and Esteban Journey
    The purpose of their journey was to study the land to the north from Mexico City. Esteban was later killed by one of the villagers for demanding their women and food. Fray Marcos reported seeing a golden city there.

    Coronado explored the 7 cities of Cibola and he explored Quivera. For the second half of his journey the Turk was his guide. The guide was told to dig his own grave and Coronado strangled him. Coronado discovered the Palo Duro and Grand Canyon. Coronado is important in history because he made Spain not explore Texas for 150 years because of his bad report.
