Russia Launches Sputnik 1
This was the first space shuttle to be launched into space during the Space Race by Russia. The goals that were created for Sputnik were to see if rocket could reach space, use the rocket to study the atmosphere and finally be ablt to determine whether a man could go into space. -
Russia Launches Sputnick 2
This space shuttle that was launched into space test to see whether or not humans would be able to be launched into space and survive. The shuttle was carrying a dog that was tested to see if humans could sustain the living conditions. Even though the dog died before getting back to earth, the austronauts were able to advance their technology so that humans could go into space. -
US Launched First Sucessful Missle
United states attempted to join the Space Race with the Soviet Union by launching their first sucessful missle into space. This missle was called the Explorer 1 and it was used as a test rocket to see how the US could build their rockets more efficently. Expoloer 1 was launched by the US after the first missle that the US tried to launch expoled at the launching pad. -
Russia Launches First Man into Space
Yuri Gagarin is a cosmonaut, an Austronaut from Russia, was the fist man to ever be launched into space. Yuri Gagarin orbited the eath once before sucessfully returning back to earth. By lauching the first person into space sucessfully allowed for the Soviet Union to win the first half of the space race. The Soviet Union was looking to making advancements so that they could land the first person on the moon. -
US Launches First US Austronaut into Space
Now with the Soviet Union sending the first ever person into space, the United States continues to want to win the official space race by sendning a man on the moon. The program created to be able to send an Austronaut into space in the United Staes was called NASA. This organization ended up building a racket the sent Alan Shepard into Space as the first US Astornaut. -
Begining of the Man on the Moon Race
The US creates the deal with the Soviet Union that states that the first country to set foot on the moon will end up wining the Space Race. The goals of this mission were to send astronaut to space safely and get astronaut back to earth safely. President JFK promised to compelete this mission before the end of the decade. -
Project Gemini
This was a short space mission that was created in praparation for getting a man on the moon. NASA created project Gemini to focus on key aspects that would be important for the Apollo 11 mission. The key goals of the project Gemini mission were to build a capsoul that holds two people, be able to have longer flight times and be able to complete spacewalks. -
Project Apollo
Project Apollo was one of the most important space projects that the United States had ever created. There were many problems though with this project. During Apollo's take off in late 1966 there was a fire while the rocket was taking off. This fire resulting in the 3 austroauts dying. After the glitch that occured with this rockets take-off, no US rockets were sent into space unitl 1968. -
Manless Shuttle sent into Space
This rocket was sent to space yearly in the year 1968. It was sent up so that the public would get interested in Space flight for when the First Man was ever going to reach the moon. Not only was this rocker used to capture the attention of the people, but it was also sent up to capture pictures of earth from outer space. These pitures taken were also able to capture the attention of the people. This rocket had no humans on the ship. -
Man on the Moon
The United States was the country that won the Space Race because they were the first country to have humans step foot on the moon. The United States sent up Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin who were the first people to walk on the moon. The rocket used to go to the moon was Apollo 11. This was created by NASA so that he humans would sucsessfully be able to complete the mission.
