Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova was the first woman in space. She was Russian. She got selected out of more than four hundred applicant. This event is important because she was the first woman and showed that women can do the samethings as men. -

Alexei Leonov was the first man to do the space walk. He was Russian. He flew on the Voskhod spacecraft. The space walk lasted 10 minutes. This event is important because he was the first to actually went out of his spaceship and "walked" in outer space. -

Edward H. White was the first American to do that space walk. He went into outer space on the Gemini 4 space mission. He lasted 23 minutes out of his ship in outer space. This event is important because this ment the United States is still almost on the same pace as the Russians in the space race. -

This spaceship was the longest lasting ship in space at the moment. It last for 13 1/2 days in space and did 206 orbits. The crew of the ship were Frank F. Borman, and James A. Lovell.This event is important because it was the 12th manned (humman operated) American flight. -
Apollo 8
Apollo 8 was the second crewd mission in the Apollo space program. And also the first in being captured and escaped the moons gravitational pull. The crew of the ship was James Lovell, William Andres, Frank Borman. This event is important because this would be the first mission to actually make the journey to the moon. -

Neal Armstring was the first man on the moon. Before being in NASA he was in the United States Navy. He also servered in the Korean war. This event is important because he was the first man on the moon and was American.
