  • Arrival of the Deutch

    In 1652 a Deutch expedition reached Table Bay in South Africa. They were a group of explorers who were led by Jan van Riebeeck. They were initially trying to make a port and stay temporarily, but in the end they decided to stay.
  • The invasion of the Cape Town

    In 1795 a military force led by the British empire, launched an attack against the Deutch who lived in Cape Town. It was the only port for ships in South Africa and there had great strategic importance for the ones who possess it.

    The Second Boar War

    In 1899 two Boar states and the South African republic fought against the British Empira because they wanted to limit the influence of the British Empire. The Boar states fought hard using guerrilla tactics, but in the end The British Empire won. Boar is a word that refers to the descendants of the Deutch settlers.
  • The Union of South Africa

    South Africa became a unified nation in 1910, when the Cape Colony, Natal Colony, Transvaal and Orange river colony decided to become one nation. It was a self-governing state, which had great independence form the British Empire.
  • Railways, and the National Congress.

    In the year of 1912, railways throughout South Africa were constructed and the South African Native National Congress were created(ANS). JohnLangalibalele Dube becomes the first president and there is an outbreak of a decease called smallpox.

    Apartheid

    The apartheid was a system of racial segregation. There were four groups that were segregated: Black, White, Colored, Indian. This system had support form the law, and decided where you live and what job oppurtunities they could have. People became tired of being inferior to the whites and they started an opposision led by Nelson Mandela. He used non-violent tactics and later became the first black president in South Africa.
  • The Rivonia Trial

    In 1964 Nelson Mandela and his followers from the ANS were accused of sabotage and high treason at the Palace of Justice.They were all sentenced to life in prison.
  • The first black president

    The first multiracial elections in South Africa took place in 1994. ANC won a majority of the votes and later Nelson Mandela became the first black president in South Africa.
  • FIFA World Cup

    The FIFA World Cup was held in South Africa in 2010, making it the first African nation to host the finals. Spain`s national football team won the finals, and Nelson Mandela appeared on the football field for a short period after the finals.
  • Nelson Mandela`s death

    December 2013 was a painful month for South Africa. Nelson Mandela the hero who freed his country from pain and suffering died. He did so much for his country, receiving peace awards and helped people with aids. He died at the age of 95. RIP Nelson Mandela.
