James Martin signs up for the Australian Army
Private James Martin, signs up to be apart of the Australian Army telling recruiting officers that he was 18 years of age, although he was actually 14 years and 3 months at the time. -
The Landing of Gallipoli
The ANZAC's (Australian New Zealand Army Core) land on the beaches of Gallipoli under the darkness of night. They are confronted by enemy fire which is the beginning of the slaughter to many ANZAC soldiers. -
The beginning
The front lines in Gallipoli are established and begin to be strengthend but little progress is made from its establishment. -
The first hospital ship with wounded soldiers reaches Egypt
'The Gascon' which is the first hospital ship to leave Gallipoli with wounded soldiers, arrives at Alexandria, Egypt. The ship carried around 548 wounded soldiers, unfortunately 14 of those did not make the voyage. -
Stalemate Period
From May through to around July, both the ANZAC and Turkish Troops attempt to claim land although there was no success. From Trench raids to bomb throwing, neither sides were able to progress very far. -
Frontlines are strengthend
The front lines have just been fully strengthend within a month of their establishment. -
The truce
Turkish troops truce with allies so they can bury their dead which lay in no mans land. Since it was summer, the bodies began to rot releasing a horrible stench which made them decide to bury the dead. -
Australian Prisoners of War
After an unsuccessful diversionary attack in theern sector of Anzac from Holly Ridge, Turkish fighters manage to capture six ANZAC troops from the 9th Battalion as Prisoners of War. -
Attempting to break the stalemate
Leaders begin attempting to break the stalemate by planning multiple attacks on the Turkish attmepting to push them back. Multiple of these attempts were unsuccessful causing the stalemate to remain. -
The Lone Pine
The battle of the Lone Pine is one of the most famous battles which occured during Gallipoli. It was supposed to create a diversion so that the ANZAC troops could make a breakout from the ANZAC perimeter from the Chunuk Bair and Hill 971. This lasted 4 days with most of the battle being hand to hand combat. -
The Attack on Hill 971
The ANZAC's planned to claim Hill 971 which was the tallest position on the Sari Bair Ridge as a breakout from ANZAC. Although when sent off on the 6th of August it was at the dawn of August 7th that they were close to their set objective. On the 8th of August they began their attack although failed miserably. -
The end of the Battle of Lone Pine
With more than 2000 ANZAC casualties and 6000 Turkish casualties, the ANZAC's manage to take over the Turkish trenches after 4 days of brutal fighting. -
The 18th Battalions unsuccessful attack
The 18th Battalion who only just recently arrived at Gallipoli, attempted an unsuccessful attack on Turkish positions causing half the battalions men to either be wounded or killed during the attack. -
Evacuation Plans begin
Leaders decide to withdraw troops and begin to plan an evacuation of the ANZAC's at Gallipoli as the freezing temperatures of winter roll in. -
James Martin passes away
14 year old James Martin, passes away due to an enteric fever on the 'Glenart Castle' hospital ship. He is the youngest ANZAC to be killed art Gallipoli. -
James Martin is sent to the Glenart Castle
James Martin, the youngest soldier at Gallipoli, has taken ill and is really sick (Typhoid) which he then is put on a boat to be sent to the hospital ship 'Glenart Castle'. -
The ANZAC's Vanish
When Turkish Fighters start to realise the ANZAC's have gone quiet, they send scouts out to check what the ANZAC's are up to although they are confronted by empty trenches.
