Thirteenth Amendment
The Thirteenth amendment abolished slavery and forced manual labor except as a form of punishment for prisoners. -
Fourteenth Amendment
The fourteenth amendment was ratified giving all people born on US soil naturalized citizenship and stated that no man shall be denied life, liberty, and justice based on the colour of his skin. -
Fifteenth Amendment
The fifteenth amendment was ratified guarenteeing the right to all men to vote regardless of race, skin tone, or previous condition of servitude. -
Plessy vs. Ferguson
Homer Plessy was jailed for riding in a "white" car on a train.
The supreme court ruled that seperate but equal was constitutional. -
Intergration of the Armed Forces
The armed forces were officially intergrated and racial descimination was "ended" on a membership level. -
The Warren Court
The term "Warren Court" is used in reference with the Supreme Court of the United States as lead by Chief Justice, Earl Warren. The Warren Court was responsible for many civil rights decisions including desegrigation. -
Brown vs Board of Education
Supreme Court ruled the segregation of public schools unconstitutional under the fourteenth amendment. End of seperate but equal. -
Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott
Rosa Parks (born: Rosa Louise McCauley) was arrested after she refused to give up her seat to a white man and move to the back of the bus. Her arrest lead to the boycott of the bus system in Montgomery -

John F. Kennedy becomes President
Sworn into offiice on January 20th, Kennedy used the now famous line "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.". He was a key proponent in civil rights. -
Freedom Rides
The Freedom Riders were groups who rode buses in large interracial groups to protest the status quo of blacks riding in the back and whites in the front. -

March on Washington DC "I Have a Dream"
One of the largest political rallies in US history. Only 75-80% of the marchers were black, the remaining 20-25% being either white or non-black minorities.

The Civil Rights Act 1964 was an article of legislation which outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities, and women. -
Lyndon B. Johnson Great Society

Voting Rights Act 1965
Lyndon B. Johnson signed this act which outlawed preresiquites for voting such as "literacy" tests and "poll taxes" which were often impossed in the south via Jim Crow Laws. -

Martin Luther King Jr. was shot on the balcony of his hotel on April 4th 1968. He died shortly after. Many mourned the loss of the great civil rights activist. -
