The constitiution said that congress had to wait 20 years before they coud pass a law in wich the importation of slaves was outlawed.

Missouri

Jan 1, 1819

Missori was given statehood under the condition to keep things balanced. So they created a new state, Maine.

California

Jan 1, 1849

California aplied to become a free state.

Comprimise 1850

Jan 1, 1850

California became a free state but, had to agree to the Fugitive slave act.
