Germany quickly over ran much of Europe using a new tactic called "Blitzkrieg". It was designed to create disorganization among enemy forces through the use of mobile forces and locally concentrated firepower. Also known as "lightning war". Germany had victory. -

Germany invaded from the west, while the Soviet Union invaded from the east. They planned on invade. Led to Hitler's death. -
Fall of Paris
German forces defeated Allied forces and conquered France bringing land operations on the western front to an end. Parts of France were placed under German and Italian military occupation. The french military forces that defended during Case Red were only partial at best. -
Pearl Harbor
U.S pacific naval fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor. U.S had sent all of its aircraft carriers and most of its planes to sea. Japanese disabled 19 ships, destroyed 188 airplanes, wounded 1100 and killed 2400. U.S. declares war on Japan on December 8, 1941. -
Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway was a naval battle in the Pacific Theater. The United states navy defeated a Japanese attack. This is important because it marked a turning point in the war. -
D-Day (Normandy Invasion - 1944)
Allied forces invaded northern France by means of beach landings in Normandy. The Normandy landings were the landing operations on June 6, 1944 of the Allied invasion. The beaches marked the start of a long and costly campaign to liberate north-west Europe from German occupation. It as the beginning o the end. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima is important because it had air bases that were within striking distance of Japan. It was a major battle the United States Marine Corps landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima. The island of Iwo Jima was a strategic location in which the US needed a place for their planes and bombers to land. -
Battle of Okinawa
The Battle of Okinawa was also important because it also had air bases that were within striking distance of Japan along with the island of Iwo Jima. The United States needs this for a place to land their fighter planes and bombers. Resulted in the largest casualties with over 100,000 Japanese casualties and 50,000 casualties from the allies. -
VE Day
Germany surrendered in the Battle of the Bulge. They ran out of fuel and lost 100,000 men. Hitler commits suicide. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
President Truman decided to drop the bomb in order to save American lives from land invasion. Hiroshima resulted in around 70,000 killed instantly; 135,000 final death toll. Nagasaki resulted in 40,000 killed instantly; 50,000 final death toll. -
VJ Day
Victory in Japan, President Truman declared the day as Victory over Japan. The Atomic Bomb led to this date, japan surrendered. Over the next three years superior technology and productivity helped the allies. -
Battle of the Bulge
The battle of Bulge was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II.The allied held victory. 600,000 Americans fought in the battle; 80,000 were killed. Germans lost 100,000. The Germans ended up losing because they ran out of fuel. Germany surrendered.
