He returned back to Australia from Earnest's Expedition -

He returned to Antarctica as the leader of his own expedition, The Australasian Antarctic Expedition. -
Last one Standing
On one of his journeys inland, his two teammates died and he was left alone and injured. -
Stranded
He eventually made his way back to base, but the ship had left without him. This meant another winter in Antarctica. -
