Elementary and Secondary Education Act ESEA P.L. 89-10
Passing this law helped the low-income families access high quality education, provided free and reduced lunches, and most importantly added additional teachers in needy districts and schools. -
Vocational Rehabilitation Act (VRA) P.L. 93-112
This act gave definition to the terms handicapped and appropriate education. It also prevented any one person from being discriminated against for their disability. It has made a large impact on people's lives in the workplace, communities, colleges, and universities. -
Education for All Handicapped Children Act - P.L. 94-142
Passing this law ensured that all children, regardless of their disability would receive a free and adequate public education. Introduced IEP's and Least Restrictive Environments. -
Education of the Handicapped Act Amendments - P.L. - 99-457
The amending of the is act helped to establish early intervention programs for infants and toddlers. -
Individuals With Disabilities Act (IDEA) P.L. 94-142
This is act updated the previous EAHCA. It gave new and appropriate language to use when referring to people with disabilities. It also added autism and traumatic brain injury to the categories included. -
IDEA - Revised P.L. 105-17
IDEA undergoes some revisions. An important change required that the regular education teacher must be a part of the IEP team. -
No Child Left Behin Act (NCLB)
Increases school performances in regards to special education by increasing the accountability. School choice and early reading interventions are introduced at this time. -
IDEIA - Improved version of IDEA
School districts are now using RtI - this helps to determine if a child has a learning disability. Raises standards for special education licensure among teachers.
