Title IX, Education Amendments of 1972
The opening section of Title IX states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activitiy receiving federal financial assistance" (Banks, 1993) -
Equal Educational Opportunity Act of 1974
"In 1974, Congress enacted the Equal Educational Opportunities Act (EEOA) to champion the rights of all children to have equal educational opportunities. Since the enactment of the EEOA, litigation has addressed issues of proper identification of LEP students for services, oversight and monitoring of programs, teacher quality and training, and funding." -
Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)
"The pupose of IDEA is to ensure the rights of students with disabilities to a free appropriate public education, including early intervention services, and to provide the neccessary supports and oversight for states, districts, schools, and educators to improve teh educational results for students with disabilities" (P.L. 108-466, Sec. 601[d]) -
Federal Equal Access Act
This act states that, "If schools allow any noncurricular clubs, then they have to allow them all" (McCollum, 2010) -
No Child Left Behind Act 2001"
"The intended pupose of NCLB is to improve the academic achievement of all children, particularly those from low-income families." (Cortiella, 2006)
