  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    It was an agreement by Congress that said Missouri was addmitted the Union as a slave state and Maine was addmitted as a free state. Congress also drew a line across the Louisana purchase. Below the line slavery was permitted. Above the line slavery was banned forever except in Missouri. It prevented the war and made peace.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    -the document that allowed Califronia into a free state in the union. Also having New Mexico and Utah territories to decide to be a slave state or not. It made a strong fugitive slave law. The compromise statisfied no one so they debated about it. Each year it gew louder making them closer to the Civil War.

    Kansas Nevraska Act was an act that created the Kansas and Nebraska Act. This act also allowed settlers to allow slavery in their new territories. The Kansas-Nebraska Act outraged the north in many ways. They were mad becuase this act abolished the Missouri compromise.

    The nation was divided in the election of 1860. The Republicans were on Lincoln's side. In the Democrat's party was divided between 3 people; Stephen Douglas, John C. Breckinridge, and John Bell. Lincoln won over everyone with 40% of votes from the North. The election of 1860 delivered a unmistakable message. The South had no power to shape national events or policies. They feared thier next step was that they were going to abolish slavery.

    Attack on ft. Sumter
    Confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina.The defenders surrendered with a white flag after 33 hours of heavy shelling. The north was flabbergasted of what they did and loss their doubts about using force to save the union.Time for compromise was over. The North was ready to go to war.
