Magna Carta
The Magna Carta first recorded the limited power of the monarch restricted to the law. The document placed later limitations on English authority abiding by the restrictions. For example, taxation is regulated under the Magna Carta, restricting absolute power of the king.

Establishing Parliament
Establishing English Parliament originally served as king's advisors, but shifted to representation of the people and noble land lords of England. As Parliament evolved, it gained power and control, establishing checks and balances on the monarch with legislative authority. The House of Commons and Lords make up the Parliament.

Petition of Right
The Petition of Right in 1628 placed limitations on the monarch's taxing dominance. This later restricted absolute monarchy rule from Parliamentary taxation influence.

English Civil War
The English Civil War destroyed the monarchy and placed the power in the hands of the commonwealth of England. Though eventually returning to the monarchy, England shifted in power and control of the growing Parliament branch and away from the dictatorship potential of a single ruler.

Glorious Revolution
The Glorious Revolution brought William and Mary to the throne of England, and established new rule and power of the English authority. The Revolution increased Parliamentary power and influence with the monarch. Thus, English monarchy was restricted from absolute rule.

English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of Rights ensured enumerated rights of English citizens. Citizens now had a list of rights not to be infringed upon by the government, concerning matters such as petition and taxes. This bill limits the monarchy by ensuring the citizens are protected.

Act of Settlement
The Act of Settlement from William and Mary reinforced the power of the Parliament as the primary government power. The monarchy was still in effect however limited, leading to an increase of citizen power through the growth of Parliament in England.
