Levene's Discovery
Levene discovered the basic structure of nucleotides that make up DNA during the 1920s. -
Griffith's Experiment
Griffith figured out that there was some kind of genetic material that caused cells to change. -
Oswald Avery
In 1944, Oswald Avery and two other biologists deduced by an experiment that DNA caused change in bacteria transformation. -
Linus Pauling
Discovered sickle cell anemia as a molecular disease. -
Erwin Chargaff
Chargaff published that the amount guanine nearly equals the amount of cytosine, and the amount of adenine nearly equals the amount of thymine, 1950. -
Hershey & Chase
In 1928, through testing bacteriophage, they discovered DNA was what transformed materials. -
Franklin's Photo
Rosalind Franklin took an X-ray photo of DNA and it helped other scientists figure out the structure of it, taken in 1952 -
Maurice Wilkins
Wilkins worked at King's College in London with Rosalind Franklin using X-ray diffraction to see the DNA molecules. -
Watson & Crick
Measured Rosalind Franklin's DNA photograph and made a model, including two outside strands of deoxyribose and phosphate that alternate, cytosine and guanine bases paired to 3 hydrogen bonds, and thymine and adenine base paired to two hydrogen bonds. -
