    9/11
On the morning of September 11, 2001 my teacher rushed out of the room and came back in with tears on her face. She talked to her teacher's assistant quietly. The whole room was silent; we knew something was wrong. I will never forget how something that happened all the way in New York City changed our classroom in Raleigh, NC. Tragedy struck our entire nation that day.
  • Terrific Teacher

    Terrific Teacher
My fourth grade teacher, Ms. Layton, was my absolute favorite teacher. She would let me stay after school to help her clean up, and she would give me candy for helping. Ms. Layton also helped me get to the spelling bee for the first time. She always showed kindness and encouraged us to help our fellow classmates. Ms. Layton passed away after a battle with cancer in 2013.
  • Cafeteria Catastrophe

    Cafeteria Catastrophe
One day in sixth grade I was wearing an adorable pink and tan striped sweater with a tan skirt and matching pink boots. It was one of my cutest outfits so I felt great that day, until Dylan R. pulled my chair out from under me in the middle of the cafeteria. I will never forget that moment.
  • Charismatic Cheering

    Charismatic Cheering
I started cheering in sixth grade, but I did not make the varsity squad until the ninth. I was on the football, basketball, and competative cheer squads all the way through graduation. I did not really love the cheering part, but I did enjoy the stunts and the cute outfits. Plus, I got to go to almost all the sports games!
  • Musical Mastery

    Musical Mastery
In tenth grade I was able to join the chorale at my school. That fall, I was inducted into the Music Honors Society. Singing in the choir is one of my favorite memories from high school. We performed in competitions and school functions. I can still remember most of the songs.
  • Fantastic Faliure

    Fantastic Faliure
I failed calculus second quarter of my senior year. I got frustrated because I was not understanding most of the material so I stopped doing my homework. I did not care about that class at all until I saw the F on my report card the day before my birthday. I called my smartest friend, who was later the valedictorian of our class, and asked him to tutor me. I made a B the next quarter, and later made a C for the year. I felt proud of myself for putting in the work and bringing my grade up.
  • Glorious Graduation

    Glorious Graduation
I graduted from high school in May of 2012. I felt accomplished when I received my diploma, but also a little sad to be leaving behind the school I had attended since kindergarten.
  • Professional Path

    Professional Path
In the fall of 2013, I had just transferred from Campbell University to North Carolina State University. I switched from a biology major to a psychology major, but I soon realized that was not right for me either. I started thinking about things I had grown to enjoy in my life so far. I loved to learn and I also loved to watch others grow and learn as well. Though I had felt the urge in the past, that is the moment I knew that I must teach.
