Ivan the Great
In 1480, Ivan the III, known as Ivan the Great, prince of Muscovy rejected Mongol Rule and declared independence for Kiev. -

Czar
Ivan the IV declared himself Czar, or emporer, over all of Muscovy and expanded its empire extraordinarily. -
St. Petersburg
Peter the Great began construction on St. Petersburg. It was also the Capitol of Russia for a short time. -
Napoleon Bonaparte
The French invaded Russia but failed to survive its climate. Their leader was Napoleon Bonaparte. -
Freedom of the Serfs
Czar Alexander II freedover 40 million serfs, yet they were still in poverty. -
WWI
In 1914, Russia joined France and Britain to fight against Germany and Austia during WWI. -
Revolution!

Kievan Rus
THe early Slavs set up a civiliation called the Kievan Rus. This civilization prospered due to river trade. -
Eastern Orthrodox Christianity
In 988 the people of Kievan Rus converted to Eatern Orthrodox Christianity. Missionaries spread religion and brought a written language.
