The czars, or emperors, of Russia expanded much of Russia. Trade, a new capital and contact with Europe also increased as well because of trade. Catherine the Great and Peter the Great are two czars that made the expansion of Russia possible. -
Russia Rebuilds St. Petersberg
Peter the Great not only expanded Russia, but also started the building of the new capital, St. Petersburg. The new capital was located close to the Baltic Sea. Peter the Great called St. Petersburg his window on the west. -
Napolean Ivades Russia and Fails
In 1812 Napolean invaded Russia. He led an army of six hundred thousand into Russia. The Russians retreated and eather buried or burned anything the French could use. Missionaries convert Kievan Rus to christianity and brought written language
Vladmier was a ruler in Kievan Rus who believed in pagan gods. He became curious about other religions and sent out groups of people to find a true religion.These groups saw many religions and were not impressed. They then met with people who worshiped Christ in an Eastern Orthodox fashion and were amazed. When Vladmir heard of this he destroyed all pagan statues and had himself and all of Kievan Rus baptized.
