Roosevelt's First and Second New Deal

  • Bonus Act

    Bonus Act
    The Bonus Act established benefits for veterans of World War One. This would be characterized as recovery.
  • Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)

    Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
    The CCC, part of the first new deal, allowed unemployed men to go work in forests for $30 a month, $25 of which would be sent back home to their families. The men were given clothing, meals, and housing while they worked. The CCC would fall under the category of reilef
  • Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA)

    Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA)
    The AAA, part of the first new deal, ended crop overproduction and raised the price of crops in general. Farmers were offered undisclosed sums of money to halt other overproduction of their crops. The AAA falls under the category of recovery.
  • Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA)

    Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA)
    The FERA, part of the first new deal, gave a total of $500,000,000 to the US citizens at the time. This money was for direct financial relief to put food on people's plates and roofs over people's heads. The FERA falls under the category of relief.
  • Tennessee Valley Authority Act (TVA)

    Tennessee Valley Authority Act (TVA)
    The TVA brought power to the Tennessee Valley area of America by building a series of dams which simultaneously stopped flooding as well. TVA falls under the category of relief.
  • National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA)

    National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA)
    The NIRA allowed Roosevelt to make the National Recovery Administration (NRA). The NRA's goal was to slowly bring the economy back by limiting production of factories, raising prices of goods, and protecting the wages of workers. The NIRA falls under the category of recovery.
  • Banking Act

    Banking Act
    The Banking Act of 1935 was used to set reserve requirements and interest rates for deposits at member banks. This would be characterized as reform.
  • National Labor Relations Act

    National Labor Relations Act
    The Nation Labor Relations Act, part of the second new deal, was used to protect the rights of employees and employers and to stop private labor which was hurting the general American public. This would be characterized as reform.
  • Social Security Act

    Social Security Act
    The Social Security Act set up a system by which every American citizen could apply for unemployment insurance and pensions were guaranteed to the elderly. The Social Security Act would be considered reform.
  • The Congress of Industrial Organization (CIO)

    The Congress of Industrial Organization (CIO)
    The CIO, part of the second new deal, was used to lead technological development in an organization and relate the technological aspects of a business with the rest of the business. This would be characterized as reform.
