Roald Amundsen sets sail on his first voyage. This becomes his first expedition, spending the winter in Antartica. -
First voyage comes to an end
Roald Amundsen and the rest of his crew arrive back to Belguim with their expedition being a success but they were lucky to have it that way and not die. The expedition was poorly prepared, there was not enough clothes for everyone, barely any food, and their ship got stuck in some ice.The reason why they suvived diseases like scurvy is because Frederick Cook hunted for fresh meat, providing the crew with food needed to prevent scurvy and other diseases -
Beats Cook to South pole
Roald and his crew arrived at the South Pole before Cook's team and beat them by 33 days. Cook's team eventually died on the way back. Roald and his crew used some dogsleds for travel on land, which turned out to be very effective. -
Disappearance and his death
Roald Amundsen disappears after flying on a rescue mission, trying to rescue members of a crashed plane that was returning from the North Pole.
