On the 16th of July, 1872, one of the most successful explorers in history, Roald Amundsen was born, in Borge, Norway. -
1888, October 3rd - Amundsen's Inspiration
Amundsen's parents encouraged him, as a 16 year old boy, to start gaining a thorough knowledge of the medical field. However, after being inspired by a fellow Norwegian explorer, Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen turned his head to desire the future of an explorer. -
1897, August 16th - Amundsen's First Voyage
Roald Amundsen set sail on his first exploration voyage, as the first to accompany Adrien de Gerlache on the Belgian Antarctic Expedition. Amundsen spent the winter in Antarctica, with the Belgian Antarctic Expedition becoming his first of many upcoming adventures. -
1903, June 16th - Northwest Passage
Roald Amundsen lead a six man expedition, as the captain of the team, on board the ship Gjoa, with an aim to become the first to sail through the Northwest Passage. His expedition only lost one crew member in 2 years, which happened for the sole reason that his appendix burst out, after having an acquaintance with another ship that had made its way from the other side of the Northwest Passage. -
Roald Amundsen reaches the South Pole
On the 14th of December, 1911, Roald Amundsen lead a 5 man expedition that reached the South Pole for the first time.
