pretending to go on a North Pole expedition whilst secretly planning for the South Pole instead -
Scott anounces his second South Pole expedition

After rushed preparations scott sailed from ENG-NZ
with 19 ponies,33 huskies,24 men and 3 motor sledges -
Amundsen and his crew left Oslo
on the Fram with 19 men,97 huskies a hut in sections and provisions for 2 years -
Fram docked at Maderia in Spain
Amundsen and crew sent a telegram to scott the crew was excited to be challenging scott's team -
Scott and his crew left NZ on the Terra Nova.
Three days out, they were hit by a fericious gale that lasted 36 hours and nearly sank the ship. -
Scott's old hut on the Ross Island was blocked by ice,
so new winter quarters were built at Cape Evans, also on Ross Island. Next Scott organised the setting up of the depots and a telephone line between Cape Evans and Hut Point in less than a week. Amund -

They traveled 32km each day -
Scott and his polar team left on their race to the South Pole
with 14 men on 2 mortor sleds, 10 ponies and 2 dog sleds. Scott decided that they would ride mortor sleds and ponies. the mortor sleds broke down and the ponies kept sinking. The weather was bad . -

It took amundsen and his crew 10 days to climb 3000m mountain with 18 dogs

The tried, starved and frozen ponies were shot by Scott and his team.
The men had to pull their own sleds in deep snow. -
Amundsens team reach the south pole

Scott chose fellow 4 explorers to accompany him.
The supplies had only planned for a 4 man team. -
The five exhausting and starving men from Scott's team
reached at the South Pole to find that Amundsen beaten him by 33 days. Now they had to survive the journey back to base camp. -

Scott Second last entry
Since the 21st we have had a continuous gale wsw and sw.we had fuel to make 2 cups of tea a piece and bare food for 2 days on the 20th.every day we have been ready to set out for our next depot 11 miles away but outside the door of the tent it remains a scene of whirling drift.I do not think we can hope for any better things now.we shall stick it out to the end but of course we are getting weaker.and the end may not be far it seems a pity but i don't think I can write anymore -
