Proclamation Line
Proclamation of 1763 forbid the American colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonist were angry because they wanted more land and many moved west anyways, ignoring the law. This Proclamation was order by King George III. -
Stamp Act
All printed materials were taxed. Even things such as, newspapers, posters, playing cards, and deeds. It was passed by the British Parliament. -
Quartering Act
This act required colonist to provided food and shelters to the British soldiers. Quartering of Troops acts kind of lead to the 3rd amendment we live by today in the U.S. The 3rd amendment states no quartering of troops. -
Declaratory Act
Declaratory clarified that Parliament had the right to tax the colonists at anytime. Also gave England the authority to make laws for the colonies. This was beneficial to England for paying off the debt after the war. -
Townshend Acts
This act was created to have more control over the colonies in North America. They placed taxes on things like tea, paper, and glass. Townshend Act is known to be a major effect of the Boston Massacre. -
Boston Massacre
British soldiers killed five protesters outside the Customs House in Boston. You can't really a massacre when it was only five people killed. -
Committee of Correspondence
Network of Individuals that kept people informed throughout the colonies. This was created after the Boston Massacre. Colonist rallied against British policies while they established a political union among themselves. -
Tea Act
Granted by the Parliament British East India Company Tea a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies.
The intent of the Tea Act was to bailout policy to get the British East India Company out of debt. The Tea Act granted the British East India Company license to export their tea to the American colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
Son of Liberty dumped large amounts of British tea into the Boston harbor. Colonist thought of this as a way of protest against taxation. This brought on more conflict. -
Intolerable Acts
These acts punished for their part in the Boston Tea Party. They closed the Boston Harbor. And this Act led to the First Continental Congress. -
Shot heard around the world
The first shots fired in Lexington Massachusetts. The colonial militia a group of 500 were outnumbered while the British army was able to press forward to Concord. -
Common Sense
Thomas Paine was the author of Common Sense. It important to spread ideas. Thomas Paine main focus were to help the colonist get Independence from Britain. -
Declaration of Independence
Document that Declarations the independence of the United States from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the Declaration of Independence.
