  • French and Indian war

    French and Indian war
    It lead to dealing with new territories and resisting further encroachments on British Land. The British won the French and Indian war. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    This British law put a tax on sugar imported by the colonies. One major thing that was taxed during the Sugar Act was molasses. Several other items were sugar, certain wines, coffee, and lumber and iron goods.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    Several Acts which regulated the issuing of money by the American colonists. Great Britain regulated paper money, issued by the colonies of British America. This policy created a lot of tension between the colonies and Great Britain.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The British imposed a law on the colonies that required them to pay a tax on printed material. For example newspapers, stamps, and legal documents, hence the name. All paper would have to be made in Britain and they earned lots of money from this.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This was a law made by British that required the Colonists to house British Soldiers in their homes at any time. This law applied, even when they were in times of peace, and this angered the Colonists. They felt as if this law was an invasion of their privacy.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    A series of acts passed by Britain that taxed the American colonies. This act took away some freedom to the colonists. This act put taxes on paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    An angry mob had gathered at Boston and they threatened the safety of British soldiers. This lead the soldiers to fear for their life. The soldiers shot, fearing that they would be killed by the angry mob. The newspapers portrayed this and made the British soldiers look bad. This made it seem as if captain Preston ordered his men to shoot.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This granted the company the right to ship its tea directly to the colonies without first landing it in England. This meant that the middlemen of the tea trade would be out of jobs, severely impacting the economy in Boston. John Hancock was one of the main leaders that protested the colonies against the Tea Act.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a response to the Tea Act. The colonists dressed up as American Indians and boarded a British ship in the Boston Harbor. They then dumped around 1 Million dollars worth of tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Were made as a response from the British to punish Massachusetts. This happened after the boston tea party. It is said that the Intolerable Acts actually led to the outbreak of the American Revolution the next year.
