  • French and Indian War

    A war between the French and English, with the help of Indians on both sides. This war was caused by George Washington.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    King Charles didn't want the people in the southern colonies to settle past the Appalachian mountains, so he created a proclamation to ban people settling there.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Taxes were raised on all paper products to help supply materials for the war. This includes the paper stamp you had to buy to prove you payed the extra tax.
  • Sugar Act

    British legislation tried to end the smuggling trade in sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch West Indies.
  • Townshend Acts

    The colonists protested against the Stamp Act, so they made the Townshend act. This raises taxes on glass, lead, tea, paper, and other items.
  • The Boston Massacre

    Fight between a Patriot mob and British soldiers. Five colonists died in the fight.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act was an act made to reduce the huge amount of tea held by the financially troubled British East India Company.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A protest by The Sons of Liberty, in which they boarded ships and threw chests of tea in the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Laws passed by the British government after the British Tea Party. The laws were supposed to punish the colonists in Massachusetts for their defiance in the Tea Party protests.
  • 1st Congressional Congress

    A meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies that created the United States.
