    The Missouri compromise was a deal made by the north and the south that made Maine a free state and Missouri a slave state it also designated the free and slave states that could become sates because of line drown. This furthered the idea that the north and south could not get along.

    Nat Turner's rebellion
    Nat Turner an abolitionist preacher lead a revolt and killed many southern plantation owners. This showed that violence was the way people delt with the problems that they faced

    South Carolina did not approve of the tariff of abominations and was not happy with congress because they did not ban it because of this they threatened to secede from the union. This had showed america that the south was not afraid to secede if they wanted to.

    Compromise of 1850
    California wanted to join America as a free state but some of it was under the Missouri compromise line and some was over so the compromise was made that California would join as a free state and further territories that want to join will vote to see if they want or want to ban slavery. As well there could be no slave trade in Washington D.C. and the north will have the same fugitive slave laws as the south. This created hatred in the north because they could be punished for helping slaves out.

    the Kansas territory which consisted of Kansas and Nebraska would split into the two separate states and they had popular sovereignty. The north disliked this because it rendered the Missouri compromise invalid to these two states that were over the line.

    Charles Sumner denounced slavery and Andrew Butler the uncle of congressman Preston Brooks. The next day Brooks beat Sumner with a metal cane it took him years to fully recover. This made both sides think that fighting was to come and violence would end the slavery dispute.

    Pro slavery and abolitionists had small battles throughout Kansas many lives were lost and the news called it Bleeding Kansas. This was some of the first items that the arguments went violent.

    A slave who lived in free territory went to court with his master and it went to the supreme court the court ruled that all slavery was legal in all states and the Missouri compromise was unconstitutional. this really outraged northern states that are very antislavery.

    A man named John Brown conducted a slave raid and at his court trial h gave a very moving speech that made people in the north support him as a hero. This angered the south because people from the north like him but he killed southerners and was a criminal.

    In the election of 1860 the Northern states rallied behind the republican candidate who opposed slavery and wanted it banned he was elected president. The south hated him and though he took away their rights and was a tyrant.
