The first of three wars that Prussia engaged in to get all German states united. Prussia allied with Austria to get Holstein and Schleswig under control. These states at the time were owned by Denmark. -

Prussia still needed to gain control of some German states that Austria had. They decided to go to war with their former ally Austria. Prussia decided to not completely destroy Austria because they knew Austria would want revenge. -

Prussia now had almost all of the German states united but still had a few missing that were near France so therefore sided with France. Prussia decided to go to war with France to prove to these small German states that France was weak and could not protect them. -

The Second Reich was the second of three empires that had German under control . The first being the Holy Roman Empire and the third being during the time of the Nazi party. The Second Reich remained up until the end of World War I
