French and Indian War
The American colonist helped Britain fight against the French and the northern Indians. The British won and remained the rights to the land they owned. However, the war put the British in major debt. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act put a three cent tax on sugar. It also raised the price on coffee, indigo, and wine. Imports on wine and rum from France were banned. Therefore, colonist had no choice but to buy the over priced goods. -
Stamp Act
The stamp act was the first direct tax on the colonist from Britain. Every news paper, book, or othe printed item had to have a British stamp on it. The stamp cost money, which outraged the colonist even more. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts was a series of laws named after the British Chancellor. The laws were taxes on nearly everything. The colonist hated the taxes, and became aggressive. This made the British send troops to America. Also, all taxes were eventuallly repelled except the tea tax. -
Boston Massacre
Five American colonist were shot by British troops. Not much is known on how the shootings started, and both sides made things up things for their own personal propoganda. -
Boston Tea Party
The American colonist were very frustrated with the tax on tea. Therefore, they took action. Many colonist dressed like indians and snuck into the Boston Harbor. Once they were there, they dumped 342 whole crates of tea into ocean. -
First Continental Congress
Delegates from all of the colonies went and joined together in respose to the Intollerable Acts. They discussed liberty and met in secret to avoid being found out by Britain. -
Second Continental Congress
The second joining was when the revolutionary war had just begun. The armed forces were very disorganized and they appointed George Washington and the first ever commander-in-cheif. The congress would soon create the Declartion, Constitution, and the Marine Corps. -
Bunker Hill
American colonist had occupied Breed's Hill to protect a shipyard in Boston. The British attacked the next day and the colonist fought until they were out of ammunition. -
Declaration of Independence
This document declared that the colonies wished to be free from the British rule. This is considered the birth of America to many people. Today, we still celebrate this day and it is known as Independence Day.
