Treaty of Paris- 1763
The Treaty that ended the 7 years war (AKA- the French and Indian War). Signed in 1763. France lost all possessions on North American mainland. Also its claims east of Mississippi River went to Great Britian except New Orleans. -
Proclamation Act
It was a rule that colonist couldn't go past the Appalachian Mountains. -
The Sugar Act
The previous tax on sugar was six pence. They reduced that by half so, that people would pay the tax on stuff. -
The Stamp Act
The money collected from the Stamp Act went to help the troops. The colonies had to pay for all the papers that they printed. -
Decleration of Rights and Grievances
This document was thought up and written by the Congress of the Stamp Act. It's a list of 14 Rights that the colonist had. -
Stamp Act Congress
The first congress of the American Colonies city who met to create a united protest against British taxation. They believed Parlament did not have the right to enact a tax because it didn't have representation from the colonies. -
Stamp Act Repealed
The British Parliament repealed the stamp act after 4 months of protest in America. Benjamin Franklin appealed to the British House of Commons to repeal the law. -
Declaratory Act
Parliament arrested its authority to make laws binding the colonies "in all cases whatsoever". -
Townshend Acts
Placed impact duties, collectible before giids entered colonial markets, on many commodities including lead, glass, paper and tea. Repealed in 1770. -
Boston Massacre
A "patriot" mob rally together to complain about their unhappyness. They were just tring to get though to the British soldiers. They were throwing snowballs, rocks, sticks; anything to get their attention (like a two year old having a fit). -
Committees of Correspondence
A Boston town meeting appointed this group to communicate with other towns regarding this challenge. That all royally appointed massachusetts officials would be paid by the crown. In effect, this made executive and judiciary branches of the colony's government independent of elected representatives. -
Tea Act
Gave the British East India Company, a monopoly on all tea imports to American hitting at American merchants. -
Boston Tea Party
The tea shipment that the American Indians destoryed was from the East India Company. This event started a series of rebelions. -
Intolerable Acts
The name given by American Patriots to a series of laws passed by the British Parliament after the Boston Tea Party. The Intolerable Acts were enacted as punishment for the colonist of Massachusetts for dumping a tea shipment into the Boston Harbor. Also known as the Coercive Acts. -
The Quartering Act
Legalized the housing of British troops in private homes in the colonies. -

1st Continentel Congress
A meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies (Georgia did not send a delegate). They met to petition King Geogre III to stop the enforcement of the Intolerable Acts, They were unsuccessful. -
Lexington and Concord
The fighting took place on April 19, 1775. First in Lexington where 70 minutemen met approximitely 700 British soldiers on the green in the center of town. Then British marched toward Concord to capture a supply of ammunition being stored there. Colonial milita met the British regulars at the bridge and opened fire. -
Bunker Hill
The British were tring to get rid of the Americans. The Americans did pretty good and gave the British some significant causlties, which also gave them some confindence. -
Apply to Reason Rejected
The delegates passed the Olive Branch Petition, Written by John Dickinson of Pennsylvania, in which they professed their attachment to King George and begged him to try to prevent further hostilities so, that there might be an accommodation. -
Common Sense
Pamphlet written by Thomas Paine. It was the single most important piece of writing during Revolutionary War era sold more than 100,000 copies within a few months of it's publication. It reshaped popular thinking and put independants squarly on the agenda. -
Decleration of Independance
The United States didn't want to be part of Great Britian so, we formed a new nation. A group of five got together and wrote out a decleration.
