Battle: The siege of the Alamo begins with 1500 Mexican troops surrounding the mission of San Antonio de Bexar. Approximately 100 Texian defenders and civilians are trapped inside. -
TX Declares Independence
Event: TX declares its Independence from Mexico after gathering at Washington-on-the-Brazos River. The actual declaration of independence document was signed the following day on March 3. -
13-Day Siege @ Alamo
Battle: Texians defenders withstand a 13-day siege at the Alamo Mission in San Antonio. Led by Mexican General Santa Anna, the troops kill nearly all of the Texian defenders, including Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and William Travis. -
Sam Houston Arrives to Gonzales
Event: General Sam Houston arrives in Gonzales and is informed of the fall of the Alamo. He orders all inhabitants to retreat with him to the Colorado River beginning the Runaway Scrape. In East Texas, residents abandon the towns of Nacogdoches and San Augustine. -
Houston to Pres. David G. Burnet
Event: Houston writes Texas President David G. Burnet, “I have kept the army together under the most discouraging circumstances, and I hope a just and wise God, in whom I have always believed, will yet save Texas…” -
Mexican Army Defeated @ San Jancinto
Battle: General Sam Houston and his Texian troops defeat the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto and capture General Santa Anna the following day. -
Annexation of USA
Presidential Event: Texans elect new officers, ratify a constitution, and vote in favor of annexation to the United States of America. However, the United States takes no action to annex Texas. Sam Houston is elected president and Mirabeau B. Lamar is elected vice president of the new Republic of Texas. -

Event: A resolution to recognize Texas as a nation is introduced in the United States Senate -
US recognizes the ROT
Event: The United States recognizes the Republic of Texas just before U.S. President Andrew Jackson leaves office. -
Santa Anna
Event: After visiting Washington, D.C., General Santa Anna went back into Mexico, reneges on the promises made to the Republic of Texas in order to gain his freedom. -

John Quincy Adams (June - July)
Event: John Quincy Adams, former US President and now member of US Congress speaks in opposition to the annexation of Texas every morning that Congress is in session. Adams opposed annexation because the Republic of Texas allows slavery. -
U.S. Senator William C. Preston
Event: U.S. Senator William C. Preston introduces a bill calling for a treaty between the United States, Texas and Mexico. -
Mirabeau B. Lamar
Presidential: Mirabeau B. Lamar is inaugurated as President of the Republic of Texas, since Sam Houston, by law could not succeed himself. Lamar is elected nearly unanimously after the two other candidates commit suicide before the election. -
The Flag
Event: The flag of the Republic of Texas is redesigned with a white star containing 5 points in the center of a blue rectangle and 2 horizontal white and red stripes. Congress approves the design, as does President Mirabeau B.Lamar. -
Wife
Event: A few months before Houston begins his second term as President of the Texas Republic, Sam Houston, 47, marries 21-year old Margaret Lea. Lea, a devout Christian and the daughter of a Baptist preacher serves as a positive influence on her husband’s spiritual life and their 8 children. -

Presidential Event: Sam Houston succeeds Mirabeau B. Lamar after winning a second term as president for the Republic of Texas. -
Santa Anna, Mexico, and Texas
Battle: After Santa Anna returns to the presidency of Mexico, a large force of Mexican soldiers march into Texas and seizes San Antonio. The troops retreat into Mexico two days later. -

Battle: Once again, the Mexican army captures San Antonio. The army is repulsed by Texian troops a few weeks later. -

Event: Sam Houston agrees to an armistice with Mexico. -

Presedential: Anson Jones is inaugurated as the 4th and last President of the Republic of Texas. -

Event: U.S. Congress approves the annexation of Texas. -

Event: Annexation and a new state constitution are overwhelming approved by the voters of the Republic of Texas. -
James Polk
Presidential: U.S. President James Polk signs the bill admitting Texas as a state. The Republic of Texas is no more.
