The Battle of Fort Sumter
The battle of Fort Sumter was caused by north and south both wanting this fort. The fort was bombarded for 34 hours straight. This battle was very significant in the war because it was the first battle. In a way this is the battle that started the civil war. There was previous contention between the north and south but this is the thing that set it off. -
Angle of Marye´s Heights
On December, 13th 1862 a man named Richard Rowland Kirkland gave water to dying soldiers during the battle of Fredricksburg. This was a major event of the civil war because it shows that no matter how bloody the battlefield is we are still human. The battle of Fredricksburg was a very bloody battle and even though two sides were killing each other, humanity was still shown. Richard Kirkland crawled on the battlefield to give water to dying soldiers from both sides of the war. -
The Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order that Abraham Lincoln signed. The Emancipation Proclamation was a very important event of the civil war because this declared the freedom of 3.1 million slaves from the south. This made the south extremely angry. This turned into a total war to destroy the old south. This was a very good decision made by Abraham Lincoln.
