    Resident Evil
    The first installment in the Resident Evil series was originally released in 1996 for the PlayStation and used that systems memory system. The game's graphics consist of 3D polygonal characters and objects superimposed over pre-rendered backdrops with pre-determined camera angles. The Japanese releases all contain English voice acting with Japanese captions and text. Japanese voice acting for the game was also recorded, but was left unused.

    Resident Evil 2
    Resident Evil 2 was originally released for the PlayStation in 1998 and used the memory system of that console. Resident Evil 2 was well received by critics, who praised its atmosphere, setting, graphics and audio. Its controls, voice acting and inventory system were criticized, however, and certain reviewers disliked its puzzles. This installment boasted better graphics than its predecessor, but used the same basic graphic system.
  • Code Veronica

    Code Veronica
    Resident Evil Code: Veronica was originally released for the Dreamcast in 2000 and used the memory system of that console. Code: Veronica is the first Resident Evil game in the main series to use 3D backgrounds instead of the traditional pre-rendered ones. Despite this, the camera does not follow the player around, but swings between semi-fixed angles.

    Resident Evil 4 was the sixth main entry in the Resident Evil series, the game was originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in January 2005 in North America and Japan and used that consoles memory system. The game's English voice actors recorded their parts in four sessions, over three to four months. In addition to the voice acting, the game's designer detailed each cinematic sequence so that each character's facial expressions matched the tone of their voice actor.

    Resident Evil 5 is the seventh installment in the Resident Evil survival horror series, and was released on March 5, 2009 in Japan and on March 13, 2009 in North America for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and used the memory system of those consoles. X-Play noted that while the game's graphics were exceptional, the single player AI was hard to play through. In addition, they expressed disappointment, as they felt the controls were taken from Resident Evil 4.

    Resident Evil 6 is an upcoming third-person shooter dramatic horror video game developed and published by Capcom and scheduled for release on October 2, 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and at a later date for Microsoft Windows. The development of the game is led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who is stated by Capcom to be aiming to "deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values."
