  • Period: 1095 to 1291

    The Crusades

    The Crusades were a series of religious wars between Muslims and Christians. They were at war to keep both of their places of worship safe.
  • 1096

    The Battle of Civetot

    An important battle fought between the Seljuk forces of the Sultanate of Rum and the people's Crusade, which compromised mainly peasant from Christian lands. This ultimately lead to the end of the people's Crusade.
  • 1097

    Siege of Antioch

    A series of events of betrayal, massacre, and heroism. Through capturing Antioch, the crusaders secured lines of supply and reinforcement to the west.
  • 1099

    Siege of Jerusalem

    A decisive event of the First Crusade. Prior to achieving multiple successes in the lands near Jerusalem, the Crusader forces finally converged on Jerusalem and laid Siege to the city in June of 1099.
  • 1347

    Trade stump and Labor shortage

    Due to the deaths of many laborers, the amount of land under cultivation drastically reduced. This led to many landowners being ruined. During this time, there was a rise in wages for artisans and peasants. These changes resulted in a new fluidity to the hitherto rigid stratification of society.

    Black Death

    A plague pandemic which took place in Medieval Europe lasting from 1347 to 1353 CE. This took the lives of nearly 25-30 million people.
  • 1348

    The Black Death reaches London

    On November 1st 1348, the Black Death reached London. In the coming months, this led to 200 people being buried everyday.
  • 1349

    Persecution of Jews

    There were a series of violent attacks, mass persecutions and massacres of Jews during the Black Death. Jewish people were wrongfully blamed for outbreaks of the Black Death. Nearly 3,000 Jewish people were killed.

    Early Renaissance

    a type of art developed principally in Florence, Italy, during the 15th century and characterized by the development of linear perspective, chiaroscuro, and geometrically based compositions.
  • 1454

    Gutenberg's bible is published

    One of the most famous bibles around the world, Gutenberg's bible is the earliest full-scale work printed in Europe using moveable type. It was also the first complete book extant in the West and one of the earliest printed from movable type.
  • 1492

    Columbus reaches the Bahamas

    Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain to find an all-water route to Asia. Two months later he landed on an island in the Bahamas that he called San Salvador; the natives called it Guanahani.
