    The author Dante

    Dante was an author who lived in the years 1265 - 1321. He was a well known Italian philosopher and writer. He is best known for writing The Divine Comedy that was published in 1320.
  • 1346

    The Black Death

    A terrible plague that wiped out half of the population in Europe. The disease was passed along through fleas and rats along trade routes. It took Europe 200 years to repopulate and had out breaks pop up from time to time all the way to the 19th century.

    The Printing Press

    Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1450. The first book he made was the bible in German. Because he did not seek approval from the church to print the bible he was killed for his efforts

    Michelangelo

    Michelangelo is one of the many artist during the renaissance. He lived from 1475 - 1564. His most famous works are his paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in 1512. At the time they were very controversial and considered nudity and porn by the public. Today its considered one of the greatest works of art.

    Martin Luther

    Martin Luther the leader of the religious reformation in Europe was born. He would go on to separate from the catholic church and start his own with the beliefs of faith alone, not actions, will save you.

    Henry VIII (1490-1557)

    The king wanted to keep divorcing his wives until he could have a male heir. He ended up killing his wives because the pope would deny divorce.
  • 1517

    The 95 Theses

    Martin Luther wrote 95 propositions that were highly debatable of the catholic religion. He then nailed it to the church door for it to be discussed and even brought up to the pope. It was this document that brought people to leave the catholic church and the reformation was born.
  • 1534

    The act of supremacy 1534

    King Henry went to parliament to form this act. It separated England from The Catholic Church and formed The Church of England. The doctrine was essentially Catholicism but gave the power of the church to the king. This way King Henry could divorce his wife.
