    First Grade

    In the first grade, I started getting interested in books. I enjoyed read alouds during specials with the librarian. My reading was average level for my age. I remember that I loved reading the Junie B. Jones books.

    Second Grade

    During my second grade school year, reading was my favorite activity. My teacher encouraged me to read a lot and gave a great amount of praise for enjoying to read. She read a story to us almost everyday. I liked reading the Magic Tree House books. I wanted to be a librarian at this age.

    Fourth grade

    I stopped reading for a bit. My teacher and parents did not read as many stories or novels I was interested in. We mostly read stories from the textbooks we had.

    5th Grade

    My fifth grade teacher was my favorite teacher I've ever had. He encouraged the class to do their best and brought back my passion to read. He gave us freedom to read books that we chose and gave us many opportunities to read on our own. I realized that I enjoyed reading historical and drama books. I started to read at home as well. I was above grade level.

    6th Grade

    In middle school, doing any type of school work isn't really "cool" anymore. I did not read anything other than the books i was assigned to read and I did not enjoy it.

    Freshman Year of HIghschool

    During my freshman year of high school, my English teacher did a lot of creative reading activities that motivated us to dig deeper into our books. She also gave us a bit more freedom to read things of our choice. I started to read a little bit outside of school. I enjoyed reading things that I related to and historical fiction. I was at an average reading level.

    Sophomore Year of Highschool

    During my sophomore year of high school, I started getting more into drama books, I started reading plays and got more interested in writing as well.

    Senior Year of Highschool

    I did not have much time to read for my own pleasure because this year was very busy for me. I read lots of Shakespeare in my English class and I did not really like it. I liked writing more than reading at this point. Towards the end of the school year, covid shutdowns happened and I got back into reading again.

    Lockdown

    The pandemic was a very stressful and depressing time for me but reading and staying educated helped me get through it. I started reading more often to keep me busy since I could not go out. I fell in love with a book called "For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts". from this point on I really enjoyed reading things about the real world that I can relate to and helped me grow as a person.

    College

    Now that I am a full time time college student and work at an elementary school, I barley have time to do anything so I rarely read anything outside of what I must read for my homework. I do enjoy reading about multicultural education and and psychology.
