Eli Whitny invented the cotton gin as an easier way to seperate the seads of the cotton plant from the fibers. It was operated by a slave cranking a hand crank, if a sleeve or some hair got caught in it it would tear off you scalp/arm. -

Texas Annexation
The Texas Annexation was the string of events that lead Texas to become part of the U.S. It started with America wanting to expand west and therefore wanted texas, becasue it would be a great help in exoanding. Great Britain didnt want Texas to become part of the U.S. and therefore favored its independance. But, the annexation was voted over (1836) but was rejected by Andrew Jackson, and Martin Van Buren.
