Martin Luther, the German who began the protestant reformation, is born. His father wants him to become a lawyer but he preferred to study religion. -

Huldreich Zwingli
Huldreich Zwingli, a swiss preist led the protestant movment in switzerland. Huldreich Zwingli shared many of Luthers beliefs but wanted to completely brake away from the Catholic church. -

Martin Luther Protests
After almost being struck by lightning, Luther fervently studies the Bible. He concludes that the Catholic Church is corrupt and begans to shape his own beliefs. He also protests against the flaws in the Church. -

John Calvin's birth
John Calvin was born in 1509, he established the most powerfull reform group in the Swiss city of Geneva. That is where Calvin set up a theocracy similar to Zwingli's rule in Zurich. -

Indulgences in the Church
Pope Leo X sells indulgences, certifications granting reductions of punishment for sins. John Tetzel even preached that indulgences relieve guilt from future sings. -

Luther Makes a Ripple
Luther is now a priest and professor. He teaches agains the sale of indulegences. Then, he nails a placard on a Catholic Church with 95 criticisms of the Catholic Church at the whole. -

Luther wrote and published hundreds of essays advocating justifucation by faith and sttscking church abuse. -

Pope Leo X Responds
The ideas of Luther quickly spread. He writes more essays criticizing the Church. Pope Leo X sends envoys to persuade Luther to stop. Luther refuses. The pope writes a statement to condemn Luther and ban his works. -

Luther is Hidden
Luther's friend hides him for his protection and safety. While in hiding, Luther translates the New Testament into German. This made the Bible more available to the people. -

Breaking with Rome
Pope Leo X excommunicates Luther. He then invites Luther to Worms, Germany. The pope is expecting an apoology. Luther boldly defies the Church and is declared as an outlaw and a heretic. -

The brake, Zwaingli achived his goal
Zwaingli had a goal to completly brakeaway from the Catholic church, in the year of 1525 he did. War broke out a few years after, and zwingli's followers lost against the Catholic army of 8000. -

Henry VII resquests a Divorce from Catherine
Henry wanted a divorce from Catherine because Henry thought she was to old to have children. He requested it but the Pope refused it. When Henry gained power and made a new church he divorced Catherine and married Anne Boleyn. Pg.380-381 -

Radical Reformers in Europe
Radical Anabaptist seized power in Munster. They burned books, seizedx private property, and practiced polygamy. Catholics and Lutherans came together to stop them. pg.380 -

Parliament
In 1534, Parliament passed the law that seperated the Church of England from Rome and Declared Henry head of the English Church. Henry then had the new church grant him his wish to divorce Catherine and marry Ann Boleyn. page 381 -
Feb 10, 1547
Henry's Death
In 1547 Henry VIII passes away from old age, leaving the throne to his son Edward. A council of lords governed England for Edwars since he was only nine years old and too young to rule. Most of the council lords were protestant, resutling in them bringing protestant doctrines to the English Church. page 381 -

Lutheranism spreads
By the mid-1500's Luthranism spread across Germany, expecially in the north where princes made Lutheranism the the state religion. German merchants carried Luther's ideas to France, England, the Netherlands, and the Scandinavian countries. -

Edwards Death/ Mary becoming Queen
In 1553, after Edwards death, Henry's Catholic daughter becomes Queen. Mary tries to restore Catholicism in England by burning hundred of people at the stake. She then earns her nickname known as "Bloody Mary" page 381 -

Elizabeth takes the Throne
Elizabeth, who was Mary's Protestant half sister takes the throne in 1558. After taking the throne she become Queen Elizabeth I. In order to do what she wanted to do and unit per people, she made the English Church Protestant with Caothlic features. page 381
