    Jane Addams opens hull house which was a settlement home that could accommodate many people. This is promoting social welfare because people have a safe place to live.

  • Coal Strike of 1902

    Workers fought for higher wages and shorter hours of work. I think this falls under creating economic reform because it is the start of developing business and making changes in work.
  • International Woman Suffrage Alliance, 1904

    Women expand their efforts to vote and be equal worldwide, which is Promoting Moral Improvement since women and men are made equal, but society separated them and assigned certain roles which women wanted to reverse.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act 1906

    Food is now regulated which helps sanitation and safety of consumers. I think this fits into protecting social welfare because it helped hard conditions and improved lives by putting out clean, healthy food.
  • Mann-Elkins Act 1910

    Gave the Interstate Commerce Commission authority to regulate telephone and telegraph companies which is fostering efficiency because they were developing phones to be more efficient.
  • Children's Bureau 1912

    Regulated work hours and conditions for child labor which is promoting moral improvement because children were being overworked in dangerous environments.
  • National Park Service 1916

    Having parks and outdoor recreational spots for the enjoyment of citizens is protecting social welfare because people need places to relax between long hours of work.
  • Prohibition Act 1919

    Prohibition is put in place to help stop alcohol consumption and promote productive lifestyles for citizens in America. This is fostering efficiency because citizens needed to be active and contribute to society for the well-being of America.
  • Nineteenth Amendment 1920

    Women now have the right to vote after fighting for it for a long time. This is promoting moral improvement because morally, men and women are pretty equal. They are both capable of being educated and doing physical labor, so both should be able to vote.
