The progressive era started in the 1890's and lasted until 1920. This Era broke up monoplies, and improved not only working conditions but also improved national parks, and job opportunities as well. -
Mckinley Asassinated
Willam McKinley was assassinated in Buffalo, New York, he was shot twice, the first shot grazed him and the other was burried into his abdomin. Since McKinley was assassinated his Progressivist Vice President took over, this man was Teddy Roosevelt. -
Coal Strike of 1902
Coal workers started their strike. The strike was over worker wanting better work spaces, shorter hours, and raises. The workers went on strike and the companies would not budge, but progressivist President Teddy Roosevelt would not allow that, Teddy Roosevelt faught for the workers, and if the company did not agree to the new conditions, he would send in his army to take over the mine. This quickly ended the strike. -
The Jungle
This piece of liturature published during the progressive era was written by Upton Sinclair to expose the harsh living conditions of the immigrants flooding into Chicago. Sinclair was a major influentual muckrakers to push for the better of the people. -
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Disaster
This Manhattan company owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris tragically allowed for the death of 146 women due to the fire escape on the building being locked up. The door was locked up due to workers sneaking out onto the fire escape to smoke. This later became a tragic accident in the progressive era. -
Prohibition
Prohibition came forth through the Eighteenth Amendment. This was a way to provent fathers going out and spending all their pay at the bar before returning it to his family. This lead a lot of crime and alcohol trafficing in the united states and the rise of many gang empires.
