This required that all foods and drugs that were processed went through a series of test to ensure safety and cleanliness. -

President Taft
William Howard Taft was elected president of the United States. During his presidency he was seen as wrong for American society. The people did not seem to agree with his decisions, especially when he backed the Payne-Aldrich Tariff. Even though his presidency was seen as a failure, he was the first the serve as both president and the Chief Justice of the United States. -
W.E.B. DuBois Founded the NAACP
W.E.B. DuBois founded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.The NAACP had a mission which was to create equality for all African-Americans in politics, society, and the economy. -
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
The Triangle waist Company, which was a garment factory in New York, caught on fire and at least 146 people (mostly young women) died. -
16th Amendment Ratified
The 16th Amendment was ratified which established an income tax for Americans. -
17th Amendment Ratified
This amendment required senators to be voted and elected by by the state’s people. -
President Wilson
Woodrow Wilson became president of the United States. Woodrow Wilson was a leader in the Progressive Movement for America. He was also the one that lead the country into World War I. -
Washington, D.C. Suffrage parade
A women’s suffrage parade occurred led by Ines Milholland in Washington, D.C. -
Ludlow Massacre
In the Ludlow Massacre, soldiers appointed by the Colorado National Guard, ambushed tents that were hosting employees that worked for a local coal mine who were on strike. Many women, men, and children were killed in this attack. -
First ‘Silent Sentinel’ protest
Groups of women took a silent stand at the entrance of the White House to protest for women’s rights. -
18th Amendment Ratified
It banned the manufacturing, sale, and transportation of alcohol. -
19th Amendment Ratified
Guaranteed women the right to vote. -
First Commercial Radio Station Broadcast
This was when the radio station KDKA made the first ever live commercial station broadcast. It was broadcast on election day that year so people could hear the results for the the new president.
