For Germany and Italy, that meant an attack from France. This is important for the progression of the war because Austria-Hungary, Germany, and Italy will keep this alliance throughout the war. -
Rise of Kaiser Wilhelm II
Kaiser Wilhelm was the last German Emperor to rule the German empire. He was one of the most recognizable public figures of World War I becuase he was a cocky militarist who made controversial speeches and interviews. He is important to the progression of World War 1 because he seemed to suggest war for Germany. He was a nationalist and was overly proud of Germany. Nationalism is patriotic feelings, principles, or efforts. -

France and Russia had a common desire to preserve peace and both had the desire of a defensive war. The Franco-Russian Alliance Military Convention was formed. They agreed to protect each other. This led to World War 1 becuase it helped both France and Russia in an economical, financial and military point of view. -

the triple entente was an alliance between Great Britain, Russia, and France. It opposed the triple alliance. The Triple Entente was the alliance linking Russia, France, and Britain after the signing of the Anglo-Russian Entente on August 31, 1907. This is importnat because it is the pre alliance before World War 1. -

Austria-Hungary announced that it would annex Bosnia and Herzegovina. These were two provinces in the Balkan region that were under control of the Ottoman empire. The annexation is important for the progression of World War 1 because it upset the fragile balance of power in the Ottoman empire and Russia was embarassed to give up and it enraged Serbia. -

Archduke Ferdinand and his wife are shot and killed by a Bosnian nationalist. Nationalism is extreme pride and patriotism for your country. This is important because this was the spark that blew up the powder keg. Austria-Hungary would soon declare war. -

The first declaration was declared by Austria-Hungary against Serbia. It was revenge for the assasination of Archduke Ferdinand. This is the beginning of World War 1 and was set off by the assasination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife. -
Great Britain Declares War on Germany
Germany goes through Belgium and invades it under the Schleiffen plan. After being asked to leave Blegium, as they want to remain neutral, Great Britain declares war on Germany. The importance of this is that Great Brirain becomes involved in the ear because they are defending Belgium and standing up to Germany. -

The Allied Powers consist of Great Britain, Russia, France, and Italy. The Central Powers consist of Germany, the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.
