Countries officialy join together, Germany, Italy, Japan had signed a mutual defense treaty, the Tripartite Pact. These countries are now call the axis powers. Keeping the us out of war. they are now officialy the enemy of the us. -
1940 Presidential Election
Breaking the 2 term precidency and run for reelection. Aiding Britain. Willkie and Roosevelt promised to keep the nation out of war. -
Lend-Lease Act
Roosevelt helped Britiain by the new plan because britain had no more cash to spend in the arsenal of democray, a lend-lease policy. lend or lease arms to any country whose defense was vital to the US. -
Supporting Stalin
Hitler broke the agreement he had made with Stalin not to go to war and invaded the Soviet Union. Roosevelt began sending lend-lease supplies to the Soviet Union. -
The atlantic charter
Extend the term of draftees passed in the House of Representatives by only one vote. Roosevelt began planning for the war. He and Churchill settled for a joint declaration of war aims called the atlantic charter. The declaration was signed by 26 nations. -
Shoot on Sight
A German submarine fired on the US destroyer Greer in the Atlantic. Roosevelt ordered the navy to shoot the German submarines on sight. Then German U-boats sank the US destroyer and killing more than 100 sailors. -
The attack on pearl harbor
Roosevelt received a decoed message from Japan rejecting all american peace proposals. The next morning a japanese drive-bomber swooped low over pearl harbor, the largest us naval base in the pacific. The bomber was followered by more than 180 japanese warplanes launched from 6 aircraft carriers.
