Proclamation
When the British prohibited any settlement west in the Appalachian Mountain. Colonist and disregarded the law and moved down into the Appalachian Mountains away. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act cut taxes in half in order to stop smuggling. This was the British's attempt to stop colonist from sneaking in illegal, foreign made molasses. Colonist became unhappy with laws being made for them. -
Stamp Act
The British required Colonist to purchase special stamped paper for all packages, (including newspapers, all legal documents, licenses,pamphlets, almanacs packaging), in order to help British troops during the Seven Years War. Colonist opposed the Stamp Act, boycotting British goods and unified. -
Repeal of Stamp Act
After four months of protests British Parliament took away the Stamp Act and replaced it with the Declaratory act. At first Colonist were happy when the Stamp Act was removed, were upset all over again when the Declaratory Act was passed. They didn't want to be controlled by the Parliament. -
Boston Massacre
British soldiers opened fire on colonist killing five defenseless men. Colonist and Samuel Adams then called this confrontation a massacre even though it was not because the British suddenly attack the colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
Organized by the Sons of Liberty. Although, Colonist did not like it so they dressed as Indians and poured 18,000 pounds into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
Passed the Intolerable Acts in response to the Boston Tea Party and shut down the Boston Harbor. Then, British soldiers were able to to be housed in private homes and buildings because the Quartering Act was passed. General Thomas Gage the new governor of Massachusetts, who placed Boston under marital law. Colonies made the First Continental congress and drew up the Declaration of Rights. -
Lexington and Concord
Gage's men sent troops to Concord to capture illegal weapon and ammunition from minutemen. Colonist fought back, and the British fled in embarrassment. -
Olive Branch Petition
The British were sent a petition to bring back peace between the colonies and Britain. Colonist were furious when the king rejected their petition. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Militiamen were attacked on Breed's Hill. Americans eventually run out of ammo. Even though they lost, the colonist were satisfied because it was a moral victory.
