Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln freed slaves and gave them rights even though the rights were ignored until 40 or 50 years ago. Lincoln is remembered for his great leadership throughout the civil war. He remained brave and preserved through everything. -
Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses led the union army to victory. He signed the amnesty act of 1872. He also signed civil rights act of 1825. -
Garfield
Garfield was the first president to successfully promote and implement a world naval disarment. He attemptedto reestablish the independence of the presidency. He started the work of Pendleton civil service reform act. he was the first to campaign in more than one language -
Cleveland
Clevelands second term was Mar 4, 1893. Cleveland signed an act creating the interstate commerce commission . He passed a bill in issue that would require the governmment to coin unlimited amounts of silver inflating the then deflating currency. He angered the railroad investors by ordering an investigation of Western lands. -
Harrisson
Harrisson passed the sherman anti trust act. He passed the dependent and disablitity pensions act. he also passed the sherman silver purchase act. -
Teddy Roosevelt
He was the first president to call for universal health care and national health insurance. His greatest contribution was his work for ocnservation. From 1901 to 1909 he designated 150 national forests. He began the panama canal, negotiated an end to the Russo- Japanese war and preached a square deal. -
Taft
Helped split the republican party into 2 groups: progressive and conservative He initiated income tax and continued to pursue anti-trust suits against big businesses. He accomplished passage of the 16th amendment -
Mckinley
On June 16,1897 he signed towards the annexation of the republic of Hawaii to the US. In civil service administration mckinley reformed the system to make it more flexible in critcal areas. An important act during Mckinley was the Gold Standard Act which was what made the U.S officially placed on the gold standard. -
Wilson
Wilson accomplished the passage of the federal reserve act in late 1913. He signed the Adamosn act. He took America into WWI as a war to make "the world safe for democray." -
Harding
Harding signed a series of bills and amendments. He set up the Bureau of Budget. He supports antilynching movement.
