Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln wanted to have America unite when it was divided between the Confederacy and the Union. Abraham was the first president to lead the country into war. He also wrote an important document called the Emancipation Proclamation that slaves would be free in the South. -
Andrew Johnson
Andrew Johnson was the first president to be impeached. He replaced Abraham Lincoln when Lincoln was assassinated and took over as President. Andrew worked very hard to reconstruct the Southern States after the war. -
Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses was a top general during the Civil War and Lincoln knew he could be count on to hold the Union together. He signed the Treaty of Washington for settling the Alabama Claims between Britain and the United States. He also included the Enforcement of Civil Rights for the African Americans in the Reconstruction states. -
Rutherford B. Hayes
Rutherford signed the Bill Requirement for Black rights. Rutherford issued an order that Forbade Federal office holders from taking part in party politics and he protected them from receiving contributions. Rutherford also passed the Bill that allowed Female Attorneys to Argue Cases before the Supreme Court. -
James A. Garfield
James attempted to reestablish the Independance of the Presidency. He also started the work of Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act. He maintained peace towards the republican party. -
William McKinley
William made the gold standard. He also took over Puerto Rico, Guem, and the Philippines. He signed annexing the Republic of Hawaii to the U.S. -
Theodore Roosevelt
Roosevelt always made the White House center of attention and always took photos. He issued a corollary his own, the Monroe Doctrine. He was the first and only President to be awarded both a Nobel Prize and a Congressional Medal of Honor. -
William Howard Taft
Taft helped split the Republican Party into two halfs called the progressive and conservative. He became Chief Justice of the United States in 1921. He was able to balance liberal progressives and economic conservatism. -
Woodrow Wilson
Wilson was the first president to criticize the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Wilson also signed a progressive income tax in 1913. He also made the 14 point plan. -
Calvin Coolidge
He spoke out against speculative spending and cared for people's banking. Coolidge was the leader of the country before the stock market crash. He signed the Indian Citizenship Act, in which granted full U.S. citizenship to all American Indians.
