James Buchanan
Buchanan was the only president born in Pennsylvania. He is considered one of the worst presidents we've had and was the last post-Civil War president. During his presidency, tension between the North and South escalated quickly. -
Abraham Lincoln

Grant won his election easily due to his staus as a war hero. He tried to reunite the nation and supported the blacks' struggle. His presidency was tarnished by corrupt associates. -
Rutherford B. Hayes
Hayes withdrew troops from reconstruction states. He was viewed as a traitor to many African Americans because of this. -
James A Garfield
Garfield had the second shortest term due to his assassination. He died the same year that he was elected. -
Chester A. Arthur
He was not elected, but became president after Garfield's death. Arthur signed the Pendleton Act in 1883. He did not rerun due to poor health. -
Grover Cleveland
Grover Ckeveland was the first to serv 2 unconsecutive terms. He was know as a political reformer and an unoriginal thinker. The Panic of 1813 and the depression occured during his second time in office. -
Benjamin Harrison
Harrison supported proctective tarriffs which led to rising prices for consumers. He was a strong supported of America's foreign policy goals. He signed the Sherman Antitrust Act and made it a law. -
William McKinley
On June 16, 1897, William McKinley signed annexing the Republic of Hawaii to the United State. In Civil Service administration, McKinley reformed the system to make it more flexible in critical areas. Important act during McKinley's time was the Gold Standard Act where by the U.S. was officially placed on the gold standard. -
Theodore Roosevelt
He issued a corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. Roosevelt made the White House the center of news every day, providing interviews and photo opportunities. He made peace between Russia and Japan. -
William Howard Taft
He improved the performance of the postal service and allowed the passage of the Sixteenth Amendment. He sought to further the economic development of undeveloped nations in Latin America and Asia through the method he termed "Dollar Diplomacy." -
Woodrow Wilson
He passed Federal Reserve Act in late 1913. Wilson signed the Adamson Act. He took America into World War I as a war to make "the world safe for democracy". -
Warren G. Harding

Calvin Coolidge
On June 2, 1924, Coolidge signed the Indian Citizenship Act, which granted full U.S. citizenship to all American Indians, while permitting them to retain tribal land and cultural rights. Coolidge signed the Radio Act of 1927, which assigned regulation of Radio to the newly created Federal Radio Commission.
During Coolidge's presidency the United States experienced the period of rapid economic growth known as the "Roaring Twenties." -
